I finally feel a new genus Dianthus — aka pink — that ’s a real zinger . And , ironically , it ’s white . ‘ Key Lime Pie ’ skylark a larger bloom than many dianthus , and it ’s passing floriferous . Sturdy stems contain pearly notched petals with an orchard apple tree unripe heart surprisingly erect . The interesting flowers have a uncontaminating , fresh , slightly hot fragrance . bungalow pink ( Dianthus plumarius , Zones 3–9 ) is a strong species of dianthus , and that ’s why it is often used by breeder as a parent plant to make muckle of unexampled outstanding hybrids—‘Key Lime Pie ’ being one such exercise .

This dianthus is part of the American Pie ™ serial , and all of the raw miscellanea in this group do two things : give me plant life lustfulness and make me athirst . The foliage of ‘ Key Lime Pie ’ is peculiarly attractive , with a grey - blue chromaticity that really brings out the coloring of the flowers . A incentive is that the slim , grasslike foliage tends to be evergreen plant even in my Zone 6 garden . This charming plant seems built for cottage garden , as an edger in borders , or even as a candidate for cutting gardens . It is long fucking , and if you keep deadheading , it will push heyday even into evenfall . gratefully , I ’ve also found it to be fairly drouth resistant once established . Like most genus Dianthus , ‘ Key Lime Pie ’ hates wet feet and may rot if you do n’t give it adequate drainage — and be sure not to plant it too deep . ( Place the crown slightly above the soil surface . )

This clumping perennial is cervid resistant , but butterflies and bees find it transport . I opine they must be intimate pie like me . It blend in well with almost any color , so you ’ll have lots of choices for combination . ‘ Key Lime Pie ’ is sure to become one of your new favorites because it has so many commendable qualities . And it ’s a pink that is n’t pinkish — which is a great conversation fledgling
