A gardener learns what will grow in a challenging site
Geeta sent in these photos of a tropic garden .
I have been hear to create a garden with a tropic flavour to it for the last four eld after we moved in to this place . The soil was a thin stratum with stone underneath , so planting was difficult . I had to purchase some garden soil to layer on top , but it still was n’t enough for deeper - rooting plant . There were budget constraint , and I was excited and in a hastiness , so I start planting in whatever condition the grime was . Another issue with the plaza was the presence of tall trees all around , which meant that the tree would run over from the neighbors ’ cubic yard too , so sunshine was at a premium . I plant hibiscus , alamanda , plumeria — all flowering plants — but they hardly bloomed . Then I plant some shade - loving works such as dracaena , arelia , and Tradescantia(Tradescantia zebrina ) , all of which are grow well . Some turtle vine(Callisia repens)has grown as a ground cover . The Tradescantia has also grown wild . Then there is the coleus , which has become quite an attention grabber . A scattering of curry leaf tree(Murraya koenigii ) , four coconut trees , a mango tree diagram , a small corner landscape painting , and a few other plants constitute my garden . It ’s beginning to determine up , and I am get it on the way it ’s educate , though there is a raft more to do .
Shade - loving tropical plants make full this garden . Even if you do n’t live somewhere where these plant life can maturate outside all year , they can be produce as annual and then brought inside as houseplants for the winter .

A beautiful sago medal ( Cycasrevoluta , Zones 9–10 ) . Not a on-key laurel wreath , this plant is actually a cycad , an ancient group of primitive works .
Spectacular decoration fronds provide a backdrop for the garden but also cast too much nuance for some flowering plants .
The tree on the correct looks like a pawpaw , which has beautiful and interesting leaves in gain to its delicious fruit .

A shady corner is planted with shade - loving plants in container .
