“ It ’s been a literal privilege to lead the Board of Hort Innovation for all these years , and to aid define the company ’s class in delivering research , merchandising and trade activities for the profitability and sustainability of horticulture ’s producers , ” he said .

Selwyn allege he recalls his first address to the horticulture sector as Chair of Hort Innovation , then Horticulture Australia Limited , in 2009 . “ I remember talking about how the independent driver for succeeder and productivity in the sphere would be single . That ’s something that ’s stay a nidus for me ever since , and I think that ’s come through in the changes we ’ve hear in the sector , and in the opening move that Hort Innovation stay to fork up . ”

One of the ‘ unity highlights ’ Selwyn is most lofty of is helping Australian horticulture step onto the international stage in a powerfully unified way – particularly at the yearly , high - profile Asia Fruit Logistica trade result .

“ When I first attended Asia Fruit Logistica in 2010 , Australian producers and case-by-case industriousness were competing for attention , and the country as a whole was badly represented , ” he enounce . “ We convert that so that the sector came together under one Aussie umbrella , and today we still have the most unified and productive domain of the whole event .

“ This was some of our initial body of work in the export distance , and from there we farm to incorporatea rich marketplace and craft arminto the company , which is now very active and force good outcomes for the sector . ”

On the local stage , Selwyn said in recent times he is proud to have helped bring Australian horticulture together to share learnings through the joint - industry Hort Connections group discussion and trade show . “ Hort Innovation has been a major source of sustenance for establishing this centripetal effect , deliver through AUSVEG and PMA A - NZ . ”

“ And work horticulture and the Australian Government nearer together is another affair . I was Chair of the Council of Rural Research and Development Corporations for four years and Deputy Chair for two . In this time , it was great to be able to raise the visibility of horticulture among the chief manufacture , and keep it front of mind for government and the ministers . ”

Another bragging highlight for Selwyn in his 11 - year political campaign is the intromission ofHort Innovation ’s Hort Frontiers strategical partnership enterprise .

“ I ’m really pleased to have worked with former CEO John Lloyd and fellow Director Robert Clarke to break Hort Frontiers , which date the fellowship partnering with co - investors to deliver all important and big - wallop inquiry outside of the levy system . This is a way for the company to be ego - keep and to keep deliver research and outcomes for the gardening sector , independent of levy . ”

There have of course been challenges that Selwyn has help voyage in his journey with the company . “ In 2014 , the conversion from the old Horticulture Australia Limited and the new Hort Innovation was of course a great event for us and for industry . It was gainsay , but we pulled it off to produce a brand raw organization , owned by growers . And most significantly , we did it in a elbow room that did n’t disrupt investiture into R&D or outcomes for these producers , ” he said .

But for all the wins and challenges over the geezerhood , the one thing that abide out most to Selwyn is the people . “ My colleagues on the Board , CEO Matt Brand , and the faculty of Hort Innovation who work tirelessly for the sector . The top - notch , earthly concern - course of study obstetrical delivery partners we make for with . The manufacture soundbox and grower organisations that make up the rich tapestry of gardening . And of course the growers and supplying chain participant , who are at the centre of everything we do . You have all made this ride so worthwhile . ”
