My battle with Brussels sprouts

This summertime will be my umpteenth attempt at growing Brussels sprout . I ’m beginning to wonder if I have spite a garden gnome in some way and had a hex put upon me because although I have arise a with child variety of vegetables and herbs in my garden beds over the long time , I have been repeatedly denied the joy of glean a single Brussels sprout .

Some year I ’ve been able to turn the stalk , but not one sprout has pullulate . Other years , the plant fizzled early and nothing arise . But last twelvemonth was the substantial heartbreaker .

It started with early and robust seedlings that stand tall and proud after I transplanted them into my garden . By late June , I had two of the biggest stalks I ’d ever lay eyes on . Then I did a threefold take because what was I see ? Why … the itty - bitty beginnings of sprout !
