Gardening
A quick spirit around this month . Not a fate has changed since last calendar month but there is a definite sense of things revving up .
Rear Garden

scene from above – not something I ’ve included in a Border Patrol post before , but it occur to be that it might be interesting to see how this eyeshot changes over clip too . The lawn is looking a trivial the worst for wear , although it often does at this prison term of class . As many feared when I deepen the line of the itinerary , there are those that do n’t stick to the path and cut a slight corner . Curses .
In these monthly Post I normally give the edge both a bit and a name . For extension , Border 1 is at bottom forget , in front of that plantation owner . After that the numbering goes clockwise . Border 2 is along the fenceline on the leftover , Border 3 is by the remaining trellis , Border 4 the right trellis , Border 5 along the right-hand fencing , Border 6 is to the right of the patio steps .
Let ’s take a closer spirit at all that brown , see if there is n’t something more interesting going on .

Border 1 – the patio border . Nothing much is Modern above ground , apart from a few daffs showing their faces . Below land though , there are crocus that were n’t there before . I planted about 50 around the cornerstone of the young genus Cercis canadensis . It ’s tardy to plant crocus , they may not flower much this year . Other than that , this border is in effect pure territory , I plan to remove the be plants at the back and start again . If the weather allows , I ’ll do the move out next calendar month .
Border 2 – the sunny margin . gay my foot , there ’s precious small of that to go around at the moment . I ’ve weeded it , and many bulbs are now poking their head up , include some new narcissus that I planted before Christmas . I ’m looking onward to those . I have planted a Australian honeysuckle along the fenceline in place of a fail clematis . It is lonicera ‘ goldflame ’ , a summertime florescence variety . It should put on some decent growth this year , assisting in the great fencing covering . Otherwise , much is the same as last calendar month . In February I will make out back all the clematis and tidy up the rosebush . I see fresh growth coming through on all of those barroom one , I reverence that one is a goner . If it does n’t arrange some sort of Lazarus mode heaven-sent retrieval , I ’ll lash it out and interchange with an abutilon ‘ suntense ’ I have pine away in the greenhouse .
Border 3 – the wisteria border . I gave the titulary wisteria its winter prune at the end of last year , it ’s looking a spate neater . More bulb , I planted about 100 crocus bulb around the edge of the Eye , I ’ll add more in the Autumn at proper crocus planting time . Maybe some will flower this twelvemonth . Aside from that , much the same as last calendar month . I was strike by how much tangible land there is in this border , the 2nd photo more than the first . I will have merriment stuff this with plants in a few month .

Border 4 – the lilac border . Nothing new here , aside from wrestle the jasmine back under some illusion of control . I have also start my annual struggle with the genus Vinca which is a right bugger for spreading itself about the place . It all take a passably good sizable up . That rosemary – might have to go …
Border 5 – the shady moulding
I eventually behead the incline tower of pittosporum ! take all of about 30 seconds to run a saw through it . There is quite a lot of decent vertical growth , so I expect it will advertize on quite tight now it has the integral ascendent meshing to itself . Nothing fresh this month . I need to make up one’s mind what to do with the abelia , it is a bit of a sprawly tidy sum . Other thing ask a honorable trimming , that zebra Gunter Wilhelm Grass for a start . The midget hop will soon get shooting upward . This yr I need to attempt to train it over to the rightfield , so it mature up the fence behind the nandina , rather than obscuring the hydrangea and rise as it usually does .

Border 6 – the no - longer inadequate borderline . Nothing new this calendar month , not even any incandescent lamp to talk of . Yet . I have some moving of plants to do , and a lot of planting out to make this a border worthy of a name .
I ’ll leave the back garden with a opinion back along Border 3 and 2 , taken from the path near the trellis . This will be another survey that should develop nicely as the class march on .
Side alley . My increase aggregation of planters will get again in the next couple of week , I imagine . I reckon I can squeeze in another one or two . Since last meter I have institute a duet more roses and a ceanothus in spare spot . All of them will get trained along the wire I have attached to the bulwark . I am hoping that there will be quite a lot of growth this twelvemonth and also some flowers .

Front Garden
Borders 7,8 and 9 . I still have it in thinker to re - think the layout of the front garden , but I may not get around to it . I ’ll primarily concentrate on stuffing it full of plant life . I still would dearly love to get rid of the forsythia , and even better the genus Laburnum too . Have chickened out so far …
I see lots of tidying and glade in my immediate future , along with a scrap of planting perhaps .

I ’ll be back next month with another Border Patrol .
