Propagation

My multiplication journeying continues apace . It has been a twosome of weeks since I last devote anupdateon the plant totaliser .   The unforgiving increase in plants cover .   I ’m not helping myself by have some divisions done .   I have a few   big lump of astilbe that I dug up a large spadeful of the other daylight . It split up up into 45 individual divisions , albeit belittled ace . They are in 7 cm pot and doing nicely .   I managed to unlade a few to a neighbour , but still 42 to add to the sum .

I have about 6 other similar sized clumps of astilbe that I could also divide .   Perhaps I ’ll leave that till next year !

The development profile has change a little , in keeping with the general process of proceed industrial plant through from germination through to prick out to growing on to garden quick .

The scores on the doors at the weekend were :

The gain in plants grow on come from the astilbe divisions mentioned previously , and potted on poppies , nicotiana , crocosmia and lychnis .   I ’m also finding a few plants lurking in corners of the nursery and cold frame that I ’d neglected to lumber in the database in the first place .   A few marigolds fall into this class , plus I also dug up part of a clod of midget hop in the last two hebdomad .   I ’m not certain if they will survive the process , but there are 7 small divisions enjoying some R&R in the heated workbench .

Astilbe a-go-go

If they maturate on , I ’ll put a few along the fencing dotted among the clematis . It does a great job at continue about a 1.5 m   part of fence   from May through to whenever I get around to tidying it up over the winter .   The foliage is a shiny William Green , the leaves are an interesting shape and the flower ( are they   flower ? ) , the   things that are used in brewing , are also attractive , melt   from green to brown .   It go back to the dry land each twelvemonth but by the final stage of March is emerge strong than ever and by the remainder of April it has clambered up the 6 foot fence no bother .   Here is the parent plant , happily and vigorously striving for height .

Here is the chart .

I recollect I ’ll tote up a brace of categories , “ planted out ” and “ moved on ” or “ give way away ” or something interchangeable .   This will admit me to keep track of how many plants I propagate through foul means or fair this year ,   rather than   plants melt off the total   when   I either put them in the   their final domicile , or get shot of them somehow .   If I had think of that before writing this paragraph I could have included them in the chart . Never heed , next sentence .

Hopping mad

The score for those would have been :

The solitary industrial plant that has gone in the garden is a pheasants tail eatage that I develop from seeded player .   It ’s a serious size of it now after spending a while in a nursery bed . I ’m equal parts hopeful and alarm that I ’ll have some rooted dahlia cuttings to tally to the “ growing on ” deal in the next couple of weeks .   I still have great deal of hardwood cuttings toaddonce ( if )   they ’ve rooted ,   and we have n’t get into the pourboire and softwood cutting time of year yet . I wonder if four figure , over 1000 plant , is achievable this class ? If I added in the   veg I ’ve grown from seed I ’d get there , no problem .   I ’ve excluded the veg thus far so I guess I should be consistent .

In any case , I ’ll be back in a couple of week with a revise total .
