It ’s time to let the curtailment begin ! This preceding week , we put our suburban home up for sales agreement in anticipation of building and affect into our “ Simple House ” at the farm this summer .
IT ’s functionary – the house went up for sales agreement this week – and the move to the farm is on !
Our “ Simple House ” is all about downsizing to live well without wasted space . It certainly would n’t characterize as a “ midget house ” , but at 1050 square feet – we like to call it the “ hardheaded home . ” hardheaded because it lets us exist only with the space we need – and without all of the extra “ stuff ” needed to fill , decorate and sustain extra rooms.(see : The Simple Home Design )
IT’s official – the house went up for sale this week – and the move to the farm is on!
There is a tremendous amount of freedom in living with less . In reality – it allows you to live on with so much more . More exemption to travel , garden , pass time with family – and not be hold captive by the expense , space , energy and focus of a big home .
It also lets us produce a home base that we can hopefully live in well well past retirement age . In fact – with the low cost of building and maintaining – we hope we can draw back much sooner . In a nutshell – lessISbetter !
Eliminating Clutter – The Success of the One - A - Day / 365 Project
The room by room survey – deciding what moves – and what doesn’t
A minuscule over a twelvemonth ago , when we decided to enter on the house and downsizing labor – we start the process of extinguish unneeded clutter from our current house . We call it the “ One - A - Day / 365 Project . ”
Each day , Mary and I both eliminated one matter from our house that we did n’t use , demand or want . It was unhinged to see how may “ thing ” we had merely accumulated over the years that we did n’t need or utilize . 30 + coffee cups we never drank from , old fun equipment in the corners of closets , two toaster , ( not certain why on that one ) – and the tilt go on and on . By donate , giving off or sell those items – it really clear up out space.(see : 365 Project )
It was truly the turn compass point ! It eliminated a Brobdingnagian chunk of duty and stress in our lives . The more we cleared out – the better we felt . It not only freed up space – but the time and energy it took for upkeep . As crazy as it sounds – it made a huge impact on our lifestyle . Our only ruefulness was that we did n’t do it earlier !
So the 365 Project really set out it all – and now that the house is up for sales agreement – it ’s meter to get “ down ” to the net curtailment task – deciding on what needs to go to the last theatre .
The Next Phase of Downsizing – The Room By Room Survey

There are two things we will miss – Our incredibly wonderful neighbors Dave and Debbie and the view from our back deck.
So with a lot of the clutter removed over the past year from the 365 task – the next phase is to get ready for the actual move .
We spent a small time this past week walking through our current home to create a room by room list of what will go into the smaller blank space of the new home – and what wo n’t be needed .
We separated the list into 3 categories .
( 1 ) particular that will make the move to the home .
( 2 ) Items that will not go – but need to stay until the household sell .
( 3 ) Items that we can eliminate now by giving away , donating , or selling .
And with that wide-eyed leaning – it begin . It ’s nice to have a plan – to see what we need , and to see how much we really do n’t . Just since make the list – we have been able to crystallize out a few more items that were but taking up space .

There are two thing we will miss – Our improbably wonderful neighbors Dave and Debbie and the view from our back deck .
As of now , our understructure body of work is set to begin on the farm business firm in May – and we will hopefully have the house quick for move - in by August or September .
That of course leaves the question – what if our current house sell early ? Initially , we were going to wait until late May to put the house on the grocery store . But with a equipped home near our current house usable to rent for the summer if ask – it was a no - brainer to get our house on the marketplace as Spring sets in .
Yes – it may be a little demented over the coming month – but recognize a much more simple life is in the near future make it all worthwhile ! .
