Today ’s picture are from Irvin and Pauline Faria in California , who we ’ve visit several times through the long time . Irvin says,“This bound our goal were to fine-tune the garden ’s appeal through the addition of nectar- and pollen - producing plant life for hummingbirds and to add California aboriginal works .

Agapanthus ( Lily - of - the - Nile ) was choose as the garden ’s global nectar resource plant . Their drought - resistance and warmth - hardiness make them splendid perennials for our Zone 9 .

‘ Navigator ’ penstemon ( pink ) and red coneflowers , shown in front of an good moss - covered rock , are the poster plants of native - works horticulture . Their colorful and sturdy flowers can be relied upon from midsummer through early fall .

Larkspur and bee balm , near a bamboo spout and piddle basin , tender an eye - catch display of color . arrange among lamb ’s ear , gaura ( Gaura lindheimeri ) sport its tub - comparable flowers .

‘ Anouk ’ lavender , combined with ‘ Hummingbird Coral ’ salvia , is a drouth - tolerant variety that produces lovely , faint and dark purple blooms . It let loose a wondrous lavender aroma and has strange purple spike of flowers that are attractive to hummingbirds . ‘ Hummingbird Coral ’ provides clouds of nectar - fat , orchid - corresponding blossoms in an enchanting spectre of red coral with tiny white stamen .

We are especially thankful for what nature has bring in to us . ”
