Unexpected beauty in the garden
Leila Alhusaini share these photos from Richmond , Kentucky , of an strange — but beautiful — outcome .
Although it is n’t unheard of , it is very unusual to get snow this deep in the time of year ! I need an early dawn walk to check on my garden and think I ’d partake in a few pictures .
The first exposure is a view of myperennial borderin the backyard . My neighbor ’s trees and the woods behind her property provide a pleasing backdrop . The second and third are of a variegateddogwoodin flush . The remainder are just various flowers gilded with arctic snow , include a double quince , tulips , iris , and pansies .

With everything draped in the surprisal later spring snow , the neighbour ’s Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree furnish a pleasing background to Leila ’s recurrent edge . It is great to have a neighbor who provides beautiful vista to stretch the garden !
A variegated dogwood ( Cornusflorida , possibly the miscellanea ‘ Summer Gold ’ , Zones 5–9 ) has an extra layer of lily-white supply by the snow . Surprisingly , as long as the coke is n’t too heavy , a lot of plants can handle these late snows with very niggling damage . Native treeslike this dogwood tree have adjust over fourth dimension to handle the vagary of leaping weather . The biggest risk for damage is not usually the dusty , but the weight of the snow on the leaf - out branches .
Close - up of the snow on the variegate dogwood .

clean tulip bow their head under the snow in front of a Au threadleaf cypress tree ( Chamaecyparispisifera‘Filifera Aurea ’ , Zones 4–8 ) .
violet whiskered irises ( Irishybrids , Zones 3–8 ) are topped with a livid bed of snow .
The orangish - red offlowering quince(Chaenomelesspeciosa , Zones 5–9 ) glows against the white C. P. Snow .

Pansies ( Viola×wittrockiana , cool season yearly ) wo n’t flutter an eye at a little late Baron Snow of Leicester , as they have sex nerveless temperatures .
