I once find a deal on dried lavender buds that was too dependable to pass up . On a whim I bribe the last pocketbook — a big ol’ Sudanese pound of it , and it ’s been sitting in our kitchen ever since . In case you did n’t know , a pound is alotof lavender buds . They weigh about as much as a feather ! And I can only make so many lilac-colored sachet for my wardrobe , my hubby ’s water closet , our linen paper closet , our dog beds … ( Did you know lavender is a natural flea repellent ? )

But recently I find lavender syrup . odorous , soothing lilac syrup . ( I ’m sure it ’s good news to my husband , who ’s probably sick of stare at that Cypriot pound of lavender on the ledge ; it never seems to go down , even though I bank I keep using it . ) This has now become a fixity in my fridge and the first thing I reach for when I want a drink . I care it with soda water ( lavender soda … faint ! ) and in the mornings I ’ll even take it with a latte ( lavender caffe latte … bivalent swoon ! ) . I ’m already envisioning all sorts of summer drink to make with it and may have to buy another pound soon just to keep up with demand !

But my go - to best-loved is homemade lemonade , impudently embrace and pleasantly tart , the consummate social for lilac-colored sirup ’s light and earthy floral note of hand . The syrup is insidious ( you wo n’t feel like you ’re drinking flower ) and sum up just a touch of fragrance to the tongue , like honey in a wild flower field . I ’ve already made it three times this week ! ( And a quaternary might be on the path … )
