Brand new farm. Brand new home orchard.

What we did on our summer vacation this year is move to a new homestead ! One of our braggy focuses is adding to the small plantation that is already here — which is really only about a handful of trees at this stop . We have a pear , an apricot , a plum , a nut ( perhaps almond ? ) , and a very generative fig tree that ’s our start to a stain unexampled home base orchard .
Our Northern California climate offer us unbelievable choice in terms of fruit varieties . Some of the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree we ’re considering are peach , apricot , apple , plum , pear , quince , olive , cherry , orange , pomegranate , fig , and even some nut tree diagram . Nothing is out - of - bounds at this point . Our minds are widely open and away from the actual planting solar day , I think that this is one of the most exciting portion !

During these planning stages we’re not only deciding whichtypesof trees, but also:
Of course , this is just the beginning of what we ’ll consider as we plan the new plantation , but having the answers to these first questions is a great scratch line . Husband - extraordinaire and I have our individual favorites , so we ’re each die to chalk out out two orchard design each . the final purpose will be a portmanteau of our ideas ( fair is fair ) .
After we have our ideas mashed together in one place , we ’ll gravely regard which fruits or nuts are either in need or rarefied in our area . This is because a junior-grade ( potential ) reason to have the grove is to perhaps betray at the local farmer ’s mart after a handful of years . We attempt to always have garden and fauna here at our farm pull double duty in some elbow room .
Have you ever be after and planted your own dwelling house orchard ? What were your big successes and hardest lesson ?
