If there is one thing a gardener always has to remember – it ’s that Mother Nature controls the show .   So even after a few warm weeks of Spring , with humid days – and nights that rarely sink below 60 – she came howl back with a flack of frigidness to get us scrambling in the garden .

Every year , it ’s always a surmisal as to when to put the tomatoes , peppers and other summertime crops into the ground here in Ohio .   We usually like to use the 15th of May as our rule of pollex – but we also consider things like soil temperature   and the   retentive - term forecast to decide when to take the dip .

This year – with the remarkably affectionate weather the last few weeks – the soil had warmed up   attractively . Add in   a firm 10 days of quick temps with the farseeing - chain of mountains forecast – and we decide to undulate the die   and put our plants in the reason a little early on the 6th of May .   Well , as with most gambler , we came up on the unretentive end of the stick as last dark ’s predict temperatures were changed to now dip to the rime home run !

So there we were last evening – covering up every individual plant – over 120 in all of peppers , cucumber , tomato plant , courgette and more .

To   protect them all , we use round-eyed brown paper bags with a nail pushed through the purse and into the ground to hold it over the flora .   It ’s actually a very   sluttish and inexpensive manner to protect such a large figure of plants – and a lifesaver when you need to   keep from losing your future table solid food to hoarfrost !

The good news – according to the forecasts , it should be just a one nighttime event . The temperature are expected to   rebound the rest of the week to the 50 to 55 degree every night range that is more normal for our area .   ( Of course , those are the same soothsayer a week ago that said we were out of the woods with frost for the year 🙂 )
