Way back on May 12th , I posted a picture from Sarah Post Lee ( refresh your store here ) that showed her spring garden in St. George , Utah , that utilizes lot of winter - stalwart annuals for early colour . Sara recently sent in a exposure of what the garden looks like now , and it ’s enthralling to see the progress ! Of this pic , she says,“Here is a photo of the same part of the garden take this sunup ( June 13th ) . What a divergence a calendar month makes ! My favourite are up and fly the coop now – the extremely waterwise Russian sage ( Perovskia atriplicifolia , USDA Hardiness zona 6 - 9 ) , red yucca ( Hesperaloe parviflora , Zones 6 - 11 ) , and paperflowers ( Psilostrophesp . ) are beginning to do into their own and overtop the landscape . The dianthus is still bloom , along with a few snapdragons , but the Milquetoast are beginning to fade in our 95 - degree heat . The low lavender flowers in the very front that reverberate the perovskia are Nepeta cataria ( Nepeta mussinii , syn . Nepeta racemosa , Zones 4 - 8) . What survives from now on are the xeriscape plants , which , in their own way , are every bit as lush and gorgeous as the leap prime . Our gardens delight us in every season , and now mine brings me a fresh , colorful passel during our long , hot summer . ”
Thanks , Sara , for sending in this update ! * * tick on the 2d photo for the former spring scud to compare the picture in two seasons . * *
