We ’re spending the next three daylight in Tim Vojt ’s garden in Columbus , Ohio . He ’s got lots of good stuff and nonsense to show us ! We ’ll start with his driveway gravel garden . Tim says , “ I ’ve been slowly creating gardens on our small suburban peck in Columbus , Ohio ( USDA Hardiness Zone 6 ) since 1997 , around our 100 twelvemonth - old , four - square domicile . There are challenges and surprises that work and bear on to shape the gardens , but notice plant life and creative solution are part of the fun .
This first set of photograph is of my backyard , full - Dominicus gravel garden , between a perennial bottom and our our off - street - parking gravel pad . At some point in the chronicle of the house , the crushed rock parking area ( about 9 in deep ) that extended all the way to the sign of the zodiac was covered with about 6 inches of malicious gossip . The perennial garden was created by digging out the crushed rock and replacing it with soil . I will a circular field of sod as a visual relief , but it was always a dry , weedy mess . I settle to take reward of the majuscule drainage of the dirty crushed rock and see what would grow . Now penstemons , cold hardy agaves , creeping thyme , sedum , genus Dianthus , and muhlenbeckia expand in the dry heat energy ! ”
