After a few weeks of brainstorming –   we came up with the cabin plan details and layout

After a few week of nightly brainstorm sessions where we could match them in – we have complete up the main layout and invention of the cabin labor ( come home on the picture to the right to expand and see details ) . The succeeding cabin , now of course of study make “ Casa Del Vino ” ( The House of Wine ) – will be tucked off in the northwest corner and will overlook the vineyard and farm . If you missed the original article on the cabin project – see : The Cabin Project .

The goals for the cabin are childlike .   We need it to be all off - power system – and made from as many recycled and reclaimed material as possible , much like we have with our barn and other buildings(see : barn labor ) In add-on – we created the plan for the landscape gardening around the cabin to conduct on the same recycled and self - sufficient theme .   Using reclaimed brick for the patio , transplants from our existing outer space for the plantings – and a planned kitchen / herb garden for those who stay at the cabin to utilise at their whim .

It took a few weeks - but we finally came up with the cabin plan details and layout

The Interior Design :

This is our design “ motivator ” A shed projection completed by a blogger from Minnesota . We are adapting the program to be a comfy get - away cabin .

Using the caducous figure we found online ( seans.com ) as a starting point – we then tote up a few windows and doors to the plan to fit our need .   Instead of sliding barn doors – we added a set of forked french doors off of the terrace as the   entrance – and then come out additional window in the front and side of the cabin to allow for plenty of natural light into the space .

We maintain the interior layout as simple as possible , using an assailable floor conception to make the small 24 x 16′ main blank seem as big as potential .   The kitchen domain is dominated by a large 9′ x 3′ kitchen island – with console blank below to hold cooking utensils .   It will be made from recycled metal roofing and rescued lumber – and a concrete parry for the top .   It will double as an eating table with a few stripe stools placed in front .

We will utilise the same reclaimed looking at we did for the barn and chicken coop

We will make a built - in pantry and storage cabinets along the west side of the cabin , and apply a combination of a sofa - retreat bed in the principal open space to keep the floor outer space exculpated during the day .   A low Ellen Price Wood burning stove in the front recess will fire up the cabin during any frigid stays –   and the cross airing of the window , along with the shade of the tree line should help keep it cool in the summer .

We will use the same reclaimed look we did for the barn and chicken coop

A single sink and a small 2 burner gas stove and mini fridge that will run off of propane will go along the back wall – along with a little more antagonistic space .   All in all – it should be more than enough room for a few people to stay comfortably for a weekend .   We will electrify the interior to have both power from the solar panel –   and also be powered by a small generator if need .

Exterior Layout :

Like the barn terrace , we will use reclaimed brick to make the outdoor terrace for the cabin

Like the barn patio, we will use reclaimed brick to create the outdoor patio for the cabin

We spent a lot of time plan the landscape gardening and exterior around the cabin as well – making sure to create the space as a private surface area on the farm .   All the while of course – using as many recycled materials as we can to keep with the concept .   We will make the patio from reclaimed brick – and then have prominent planting of cosmetic grasses to put up concealment to the terrace area and cabin .   We also desire to make a small vegetable and herbaceous plant garden into the landscape painting – for those who stay at the cabin to use .   We ’ll finish off the patio area with a small outdoor grill and a set of table and chairs to be able to enjoy the outdoors . Crazy as it sounds – we both think it would be pretty peachy someday to stay there and be able to have a little breakfast or brunch from the fresh eggs and get from the garden – or a glass of wine from our grape !

Now that we have figured out the master details , we will expend the next few week creating and gathering the textile lean – and weather condition permitting , commence building after the first of the class .   And so begins the daily checking of Craigslist , Freecycle , and other recycling sites for free or salvaged material – staying on the lookout for shipping crates , pallets , old b wood , brick , window or whatever else we can re - use !    We will keep you station on the progress !

Happy Gardening !   –   Jim and Mary
