My son ’s pumpkin vine ( write about in a old mail ) made a wonderful Jack - oxygen - Lantern for Halloween . He was thrilled to watch it acquire , and he was more than happy to design Jack ’s human face and take part in the sculpture .
But a Halloween night visitor found Jack and left him confront down on the front walking . At first I thought we had a neighborhood prankster ( I could n’t ideate how since intimately everyone on our trivial street is at or beyond retreat eld ) . Then I realized Jack was n’t dash … he was eaten .
We ’ve had a female deer prancing around our front yard for the past few weeks , nibbling the random hosta and occasional coral bell .

I do n’t mind her taking a few bite of my industrial plant this clip of year , but , golly , did she have to ruin our ‘ art ’ work ? The pumpkin ’s face was now a gaping hole with a cd in it and deer tracks were everywhere . Disappointing for sure .
A gardening ally told me to be happy that the cervid did n’t eat the pumpkin vine while it was still on the vine . At least we catch to harvest and carve it , right ? That does n’t make me feel any better . Phoey .
alfresco of our marauding deer , animation in the garden is begin to go down . The recurrent beds have been cleaned out and put to bed . The veg plot has been limed and cover crops have been plant . Lots and wads of Narcissus pseudonarcissus bulbs are still waiting in the garage ( a handful of Allium ‘ Globemaster ’ have already found their way of life into the garden ) , and the leaf clean up continues … and continues….and continues …

I am suffering from leafage - induced insanity and have officially requested a folio - carpet sweeper for Christmas . We have a large maple in the front thou and flock of gargantuan maple , cherry , and tulip trees in the back so the glance over is non - stop . The by - product of all the raking does make it worthwhile … eventually ( when the leave last moulder down into compost ) .
But it is such a operose chore . The neighbor has a leaf - carpet sweeper on the back of his tractor . I just list on my rake and watch him travel rapidly up his own leaves while mine taunt me from below . I take one of those . It ’s a good matter I ’ve been so good this year .
Even if I do get my in demand sweeper , I will continue to do some graze at least ; for what would fall be if there were no chain reactor of leaves for my son to jump in ? But , one belittled quite a little will provide a good hour ’s entertainment . There ’s really no need for the heap .
