If this was a aesculapian trial run , the ethics commission would be meeting about now to seriously believe calling a halt and insist that the control group are instantly transferred to the clearly effective medicine . More detail of the trial in a previouspost .
Group 2 ( those seed on a thick layer of vermiculite ) are spud heavily in 2 varieties whereas Group 1 ( those sown on multi intention compost ) are barely doing anything , although the Lychnis are beginning to catch up , there are now a few decent sized seedlings .

The compost green goddess are start to get a sheen of cat valium , the beginnings of moss or liverwort or something else potentially injurious to the seedling health . I point out today that a different tray that I sow in last year in compost , which were doing quite well just a couple of twenty-four hour period ago , have almost all succumbed to damping off , the tray also has a ( un)healthy coating of green muck . I worry then about the Group 1 seedling that have made it above earth .
The foxgloves ( a umber variety , quite looking onward to determine those ) are go well in Group 2 , just one solitary seedling in Group 1 .
There ’s nothing go on in either pot for the aconitum . Having rather tardily looked up some sowing directions for these seeds I see that they take up to 4 week to germinate and necessitate cool for a few weeks . I ’ll stick them in the fridge at the weekend . I also note that the plant are highly toxic which I was n’t cognisant of . Maybe it would be better if they never germinate !

This madness must cease! give them the drugs!
I ca n’t arrogate to have number the seeds but the piles were an approximately equal size in each half of the test . All other circumstance are identical , the pot are flop next to each other , have the same heat , humidity and watering authorities . I think the watering may be the key . An expected reward of the vermiculite method acting is that while it holds wet , any excess drains freely away from the seeds / seedling so that they are moist but not sitting in a pool . This mean that it next to impossible to over piddle . Perhaps the Group 1 seminal fluid are suffer from my broad lacrimation regime .
So far then , a qualified victory for the “ standard ” method I am using , at least for 2 out of the three varieties . This is a good affair as all of my other sowings this class have used this method acting ! I describe the method acting in more item in thispost .
